Bear

Bear is one of the dogs we had a few months back that was highly reactive to some dogs. Scrappy even spent some time hanging out together in a yard just to show Bear that he didn’t need to be afraid of other dogs. Bear was used for back yard breeding so he missed out on so much of what makes a dog a dog. He was a very affectionate boy with us but certainly not overly needy. Strangely, one of the things his previous owner didn’t like about him is that he wanted too much attention. Yeah. I’ll only say that it was a most excellent event when they decided to bring Bear to us.

What prompted me to write about Bear is that we recently received a detailed update from Bear’s new Dad with the entire scoop on how well he is doing and how far he has come in a relatively short time. We often never know how many of our dogs are faring in their new lives. So it’s very gratifying to find out that a dog like Bear is making up for lost time.

  1. So great to hear about happy endings for Golden Retrievers who have a rough start. Bear looks like a total sweetheart and deserves his new shot at life! Your work of caring and placing dogs like Bear is truly commendable.

Oh, I’m so glad Bear is doing well and is with someone who likes to give him attention! He’s such a beautiful and sweet looking boy. Did he get over his ‘dog reactiveness’?

    1. He’s getting there. Much better already but still has some work to do.

What gets me is Bear’s former owner complained he was too needy? He’s a golden! That’s why I have them. So happy to know he is doing so well. I’m sure it’s all the little lectures from Scrappy that got him on the right track☺️🐾

    1. I know, right? He’s not even annoying about it either. I wanted to take him so badly. But he went to a better place for him.

  5. Your comment about often not knowing how “your” dogs are doing in their new homes, is totally supported by similar comments that our Humane Society have made. We find it an absolute pleasure to walk Ray back there on a regular basis, and they are always so thrilled to see him. Needless to say Ray is on “cloud 9” when he knows where we are going. I wonder why so many people don’t get the obvious pleasure for themselves, for the staff and volunteers involved in the rehab, and (most importantly of course) for the dog! When Ray gives me his quizzical “humans are really odd” look ….. I think I can understand his position. 🙂
