Spring arrived early in Sacramento this year. That means the Homeward Bound Memorial Garden is ahead of schedule. It seems as if every day something new bursts forth to pay tribute to the many canine companions helped by Homeward Bound. This photo was taken almost a week ago and it’s already obsolete.
Dogs are frequent visitors, of course. This is Shelby.
We have something new this year. I was told that these metal traps are meant to capture some critter that has been damaging the garden. The gardeners called them snapes or snoops … something like that. I couldn’t get any additional information about these pests because the gardeners would always break out in a gaggle of giggles when they talked about them. They must be funny looking. I’ll try to get a shot of one.
I was given additional watering tasks during the week when the gardeners are absent. The locations were marked with red flags so I wouldn’t miss any. I think there were about a hundred of them.
Some old friends like the iceland poppies, the hyacynthias, and the daffodils have returned.
The ranunculi are as beautiful as ever.
And then there are the tulips …

Except I was told that when it rains I have to make sure they don’t drown. You just can’t win.
