Pepper is an extraordinary dog. A gorgeous German Shorthair that came to us because because her owner was moving. Confident, smart, good with other dogs in play group. Unusually calm and mature for her five months. There was no way sh was going to be with us very long. It took all of three days.

Look, pal…
I like movies from the 30s and 40s. The 1930s and 1940s. One of the things I like is how they use the word “pal” in a vaguely threatening manner. When I saw this photo, I imagined Andre saying to me, “Look, pal, I got a bone to pick with you.”

Brandee too?
A while back, Scrappy thought he might become a pro wrestler (Scrappy’s new career). Now it seems Brandee is also interested. Brandee: DaddyDog. Me: Yes, Brandee? Brandee: I want to be a pro wrestler like Scrappy. Me. <sigh> He’s not a pro wrestler. He only said he wanted to be one. Brandee: Well, he told me we could be a Tag You’re It! team. Me: Okay, when he gets his first gig, you can go too. Brandee: Cool beans! I have my ring name picked out. Me. I can hardly wait. Brandee: Belly-Rub Brandee! Me. Have you been taking advice…
Abner at Play
I recently wrote about a dog called Abner here. I lamented that I couldn’t really capture him in the photos I posted. As it happens, Abner was in a play group or three recently and I realized I had some video. I’ve said before that I’m not good at video. That’s still true. Plus, this video was clearly not shot to be with an Internet posting in mind. Still, the video below does a much better job of capturing one side of Abner than I could ever to do with my photos. Notice I wrote “one side of Abner”. A…
Guarding the river
I’ve been told more than once that I don’t have a sense of humor. That’s not really true, but I understand why someone might think that. I tend to prefer subtle or deadpan humor to the more obvious, LOL types. Tend to. Plus, I can see where some might say I have an odd sense of humor. It isn’t odd to me but I can see why someone might think that. One way I amuse myself is to insert a line of dialogue or some other reference from a movie or similar into a conversation. I’ve been doing that for…
Abner
Abner came to us with his Mom and sister a little over two months. I’m hazy on the details but I believe they came from a breeder. Abner was the least trusting of the three. Mom and sis were adopted and that may have set him back a little. We keep a leash on him at all times because he can be hard to corral when he is out in a yard. I started working with him over a month ago. Others have been working with him longer. I don’t usually work with the “scared” dogs because I just don’t…
Newby
Gizmo arrived a few days ago. If she hailed from Pismo Beach, she’d be Pismo Gizmo.
