Sweet Walter Boy

Walter is one of the new dogs I have at the house. No big issues with this boy. He actually first came to HB in February, 2016 and was named Leroy. Leroy Jethro Gibbs to be more specific. I wrote about him in this post. He was adopted almost immediately and went down to San Diego to enjoy life as a greeter in a flower shop. Problem was that he liked to explore, a pursuit made nearly effortless due to a shop door that beckoned him each time a customer came in. Between that and some curious incidents at a local water park for dogs, his time in the fun and sun of Southern California came to an end not long ago.

Leroy then . . .

And Walter now . . .

Don’t worry, he’s just messing with me. Why is Walter with me? Part of it is that leaving his lovely home in San Diego and returning to HB was a shock to Walter. He’s a sensitive lad and was showing signs of stress. Plus, I wanted to see if he would bolt out the door of a house in order to recon the neighborhood. Nope, he maintained his “sit”, more or less, until I released him. I also just plain liked the guy. He’s a dog that I could easily have around forever.

I also wanted to observe Walter with other dogs. He’s been living with 3 other dogs for a couple weeks now so he doesn’t appear to have any issue there. That’s ‘Spresso he’s hanging out with in the photos above. Walter is a serious boy most of the time. Didn’t seem interested in playing with toys or the other dogs. I’m making sure he gets many opportunities to do so but he doesn’t let loose very often. I’m guessing he didn’t have much of that kind of stimulation growing up. ‘Spresso is the the playful kind and he tries to engage Walter now and then. Walter responds occasionally and even plays with toys at times as you can see below. I’m hoping this will continue. I’d like to see him go home with another dog that help draw him out over time.

Of course, Walter is welcome to stay with me as long as he wants. But with his looks and good manners I expect he will find his new home very quickly.

    1. I always worry a little about that with the lookers. Sometimes people want to take home the wrong dog for superficial reasons.

    1. Thank you. He did go home but this post wasn’t the cause. I expected Walter would go home with the first people that met him.
